Migration of Kubernetes Clusters to a New Data Center
The company Unicorn Systems significantly helped to manage the migration of the data center
in the company AIS Servis. The migration was challenging from the time perspective, as it was
an infrastructure that was reaching the end of its life. As part of the migration, applications
were gradually migrated, API calls were redirected, Kubernetes clusters were migrated, and the
old infrastructure was disconnected. Thanks to this migration, AIS Servis can work better and
more securely with data and use the new, more modern infrastructure.
Initial Situation
The company AIS Servis had the need to migrate the old data center for a longer period of
time. Therefore, they were looking for a way to approach this project as efficiently as
possible. Unicorn Systems, as a stable partner, helped with the design of the project plan
and the project itself, and at the same time provided the necessary quality assurance.

Our Solution
The entire activity was divided into several phases:
- Impact analysis
It was necessary to analyze what is running on the old infrastructure, what Kubernetes Clusters and what applications are currently running there. - Identification of applications, consumers, and contact persons
For each application that was subject to migration It was necessary to determine its business owners and other contact persons who will provide cooperation during the migration in later stages. It was necessary to get consent to the migration from each business owner and schedule it on a specific day and time so that users and customers were not impacted. - Preparation of the project plan
The preparation of the plan consisted primarily of dividing the applications into packages in which they will be migrated. When planning, it was necessary to take into account not only the preferences of individual business owners, but also the required end of the project and the division of applications into clusters so that the infrastructure workers could gradually disconnect the old resources. The entire plan was subsequently presented and approved at the level of the company's management. - Migration and extended support
The migration took place on the basis of an accepted and approved project plan in a way that it would not negatively affects the normal operation of AIS servis and the users of their applications. After successful migration and testing, users were provided with extended support. - Post migration activities
After the migration itself, it was necessary to clean up, check and shut down the old infrastructure that was the subject of the migration
