FinOps

A long-term approach that keeps cloud costs predictable and under control. We follow the FinOps Foundation methodology and focus on cloud design, preparation, and efficient operation.

When to Implement FinOps

FinOps is suitable wherever the cloud environment is used for the production and operation of applications or if there are concerns about efficiency and costs.

Ideal FinOps implementation process:

  • Definition of requirements and expectations – setting requirements during strategy preparation and identifying key owners
  • FinOps in design – integrating principles into the cloud environment design
  • Processes and tools – implementation during environment deployment
  • Operational compliance – routine activities and monitoring according to FinOps principles

For the introduction of FinOps, we follow the FinOps Foundation methodology, which divides the process into capabilities for cloud design, preparation, and operation. This allows prioritisation of areas with the highest costs or low efficiency. Process: Assessment – identification of weaknesses, Deployment of capabilities – implementation of principles, Evaluation – measurement of savings. FinOps is a long-term process.

FinOps Assessment of the Current Environment

The FinOps Assessment focuses on existing environments or the design and processes of future environments. Goals:

  • "Identify where the ship is leaking and how much"
  • "Plan how to repair the leaks or at least minimise water inflow"

To achieve these goals, we use two approaches: Comprehensive and Basic.

Assessment Segmentation

Comprehensive Assessment

The Comprehensive Assessment focuses on long-term cloud cost optimisation and sustainability. It is based on analysis, evaluation, and proposed measures for the environment, processes, documentation, and operations, created through meetings with key stakeholders and the use of FinOps and analytical tools.

Outputs of the Comprehensive Assessment:

  • Detailed FinOps Assessment document with appendices and summary
  • Proposals for optimizing procedures and processes within the IT organization
  • Proposals, prioritization, and descriptions of FinOps capabilities for implementation
  • Estimated costs and long-term savings

Thanks to the comprehensive assessment, an organisation can save up to 80% of direct and indirect cloud costs.

Basic Assessment

Basic Assessment focuses on immediate cloud cost savings. It includes only a fundamental process review, without long-term sustainability. It involves FinOps tool deploymenttechnical analysis, and proposals based on the outputs.

Outputs of the Basic Assessment:

  • Concise FinOps document with appendices
  • Proposals for resource optimisation
  • Obvious technical measures (tagging, consumption limits)

Achievable 20–30% cost savings, primarly in direct costs.

Deployment of FinOps Capabilities

The selection of FinOps capabilities is based on the FinOps Assessment. Chosen capabilities are evaluated and prioritized according to savings, costs, time, complexity, and client requirements. Once priorities are approved, a detailed implementation plan is prepared, followed by the actual deployment of FinOps.

FinOps Implementation Evaluation

FinOps Evaluation compares initial requirements from the assessment or cloud strategy with the target state. It focuses on selected capabilities, implementation of recommended processes, long-term sustainability, and future control mechanisms. The output is a comprehensive document with appendices and recommendations.

What our customers ask us (FAQ)

Find answers to the most frequently asked questions about FinOps.

How can we gain better control over our cloud costs?
FinOps helps align technology, finance, and business teams by providing a shared view of cloud usage and associated costs. Through continuous monitoring and cost analysis, organizations can improve budget planning and ensure cloud resources are used more efficiently.
Why do our cloud bills vary from month to month?
Cloud services are typically billed based on actual consumption, which can fluctuate over time. FinOps provides transparency into which services and teams are generating costs, helping organizations identify unexpected changes and eliminate inefficient resource usage.
How can we tell if we are using our cloud resources efficiently?
A key part of FinOps is continuously monitoring cloud usage and identifying underutilized or oversized resources. This enables organizations to optimize their environments and ensure they are only paying for resources that deliver real business value.
Who should be responsible for cloud costs?

FinOps is built on shared accountability across IT, finance, and business teams. Each team gains visibility into the costs it generates and can actively contribute to cost optimization and more effective use of cloud services.

Is FinOps only suitable for large organizations?

No. FinOps principles can benefit organizations of all sizes. Whether a company operates a few cloud applications or manages a large-scale cloud environment, FinOps helps improve cost transparency, support informed decision-making, and maximize the long-term value of cloud investments.
