Unicorn Supports in Digitalising FTTx Network Planning
Starting Point
By upgrading the GIMS–QPA (Pre-prioritisation of FTTx Locations) system application, which supports automated processing of locations based on the profitability of non-residential premises, their clusters, and adjacent buildings, Unicorn has successfully completed another stage of implementing a software solution based on the product of its Dutch partner Geostruct IMS, focused on supporting the planning of FTTx networks.
Statement of CETIN
"Despite great labour pains, the project was delivered, albeit with a slight delay. We would especially like to highlight the professional cooperation with our colleagues from HSI, where, despite the problems that arose, we were able to find the best solution together."
Lukáš Řeháček, Product Owner GIS
Our Solution
Based on the input information, QPA can load the necessary data from the database and start processing the high-level design (HLD) of the network design without user intervention. After the QPA run is completed, the planner only cleans up the resulting HLD. The total time for creating HLD has been reduced to 1/3 thanks to this module.
The proposed modifications are based on the idea of creating locations for QPA solutions, depending on the profitability of individual objects, so that the polygon is as large as possible while maintaining the target profitability.
The goal is to automatically calculate thousands of polygons, which turned out to be a big challenge in terms of performance, which we managed to solve in a joint agile team by parallelising virtual servers. Thanks to this, we managed to calculate more polygons at once. By optimising the algorithm, we achieved the calculation of one polygon with 300 objects (ROP) in under 5h/polygon.
The algorithm will proceed in these steps:
- Step 1: Inclusion of objects that are solved in QPA within the polygon.
- Step 2: QPA traces lines and connections to individual objects and calculates their costs.
- Step 3: Evaluation of the total cost per polygon.
About CETIN
It provides infrastructure services for fixed and mobile networks, data services for corporate networks and data centre rental, and provides international voice services for both domestic and foreign providers. It is an independent wholesale player with no ties to any particular provider and promotes the principle of open network access on fair terms for all operators.
CETIN is a member of the PPF Group.
