Implementation of the PVS Information System

Unicorn implemented the PVS (Projektverfolgungssystem) information system. The system is a complex solution to support the project management and project outputs of the IT department of Volkswagen Slovakia. The solution is built in a way that leads each role through the project's lifecycle intuitively and according to the defined method (IT PEP), it enables cooperation across departments of an international company and provides information for continuous assessment of projects and the project portfolio. The solution is based on Microsoft SharePoint 2016, which proved to be a convenient solution because of its positive acceptance by the users.

Starting Point

The IT Project office of Volkswagen Slovakia was looking for a tool to merge the registries of project outputs and methods in accordance with the IT PEP methodology. The tools used at the time made it difficult to distribute up-to-date required standards across the wide range of projects and to keep an overview of the status of individual projects. The PVS system created a Single Point of Truth (SPOT), that is a space for cooperation and registry of all information related to projects.

Our Solution

The projects of Volkswagen Slovakia are executed by a number of suppliers both internal and external. The technological and functional scope varies from production systems, through infrastructure, to the tools supporting organisational and economic areas. These specifics had to be considered during the development and the whole solution needed to be made in a way that does not require a common user to have an in-depth knowledge of the system and the IT PEP methodology.

The user interface is essential in order to intuitively guide throughout a project and project related activities. Important and up-to-date information is always available in a respective project portal. Users have been spared of excessive administration and are able to dedicate more time to process project outputs.

The solution is built as highly adjustable from the technological point of view. Therefore, it covers specifics of different projects, supports controlled project tailoring and manages project roles' authorisation. These parameters are covered by ready-made and adjustable templates on several levels. The choice of templates depends on the parameters of a project, which relates to the requirement to avoid the necessity for a common user to have an in-depth knowledge of the IT PEP methodology while being in compliance with it.
