IBM BPM Upgrade
In order to take care of customers, Allianz has many systems and applications at its disposal, which are used for the orderly registration of contracts and reports, their processing and approval, and data protection of its clients. Some of these tools work on the IBM platform. To maintain service support, it was necessary to upgrade the Business Process Manager 8.5.6.2 to Business Automation Workflow version 20.0.0.2.
Therefore, the Proof of Concept project was first implemented with Unicorn, the aim of which was to gain the necessary knowledge for the actual upgrade of the IBM platform, and after its completion, the IBM BPM Upgrade project, which represented a gradual upgrade of all system environments with minimal time consumption and minimal side effects.

Our Solution
The plan was built with the aim of maximum productivity. Some stages ran in parallel, and all provided information contributing to meeting the production environment upgrade deadline:
- Creating a temporary development environment, DEVX, with BPM version 8.5.6.2
- DEV environment upgrade
- Preparation for installation (db backup, HD space increase, server preparation)
- Installation of IBM BAW 20.0.0.2 (upgrade IBM, upgrade db IBM)
- Environment customization (installation of drivers, editors,, and configuration files)
- Application commissioning
- INTEG test environment upgrade
- Preparation and Installation of IBM BAW 20.0.0.2
- Verification of the new image loading procedure
- Application installation
- Upgrade of pre-production PREPROD environment
- Preparation and Installation of IBM BAW 20.0.0.2

- Upgrade the production PROD environment

- Application installation
All stages took place at pre-set time intervals, some in parallel. Emphasis was also placed on Regression tests of Allianz systems in the updated test environment, the results of which were also crucial for reaching the final upgrade date of the production environment. The IBM BPM Upgrade project was successful. It was possible to upgrade the system platform with IBM BAW version 20.0.0.2 (Enterprise edition) according to a jointly set schedule in the required time and without restrictions on regular Allianz operation.
